A bonded warehouse is a geographically delimited area, authorized by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, through the Tax Administration Service, to provide services to private individuals such as exporters, importers, carriers, and foreign trade businesses, among others. These individuals may receive, store, safeguard, load, or unload goods involved in foreign trade.
Customs-controlled areas are adjacent to Mexican port facilities, whether air, sea or land.
The bonded warehouse regime may obtain authorization, according to the General Rules on Foreign Trade, to carry out the processing, manufacturing, and/or repair of goods. These functions may be performed under its own corporate name and not that of third parties.
A Strategic Bonded Warehouse is a property located within the territorial jurisdiction of any customs office anywhere in the country. This property generally must meet the characteristics of an industrial park for the introduction of goods under the customs regime also known as Strategic Controlled Precinct.
This authorization is granted by the customs authorities to the so-called Administrator. Once the property is authorized, a third party may obtain authorization to allocate goods within it to the customs regime of strategic bonded warehouse, known as Operators of the regime.
It may be adjacent to the customs office or not, as long as it is within the territorial jurisdiction of a customs office, regardless of the distance from it.
